The man walking in the rain on the street after midnight. The story is about a woman who saves a little boy on the streets of New York and gets national attention. Everything she thought she knew about herself is suddenly called into question and she finds herself in a great deal of danger.I haven't had a lot of reading or reviewing time lately, so I'm late actually writing a review for this one. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. That’s not ALL the attention she gets. On our first visit I was entranced with everything I saw and read, but one lone sentence stuck with me. That's okay as I'm going to pass it onto a friend that likes this genre. I enjoyed it. I whispered something about the sketch to Gary, who smiled and asked if he knew me from somewhere. I finished Beautiful Lies late last night and I enjoyed it very much.
Very interesting concept. What if your entire notion of who you are and where you came from turns out to be false?
I think its main draw would have to be the sexy Jake - that's certainly how it came to be on my reading list - "You have to read this book. That's really the mystery she works on the most.
No surprise twists here. But most of all, I am impressed by kindness. I didn't feel the love between the two, but maybe that's where the 2nd book leads. I’m going to find other books by this author. The plot was interesting enough, but the answers to the "mystery" was pretty evident from the beginning.

That’s not ALL the attention she gets. art and words are my own. Ridley Jones, the heroine, meets Jake and is smitten. It struck me as a young women’s fantasy for living in the big city and it was as if Nancy Drew gets to grow up and became a freelance writer of little renown and gets to write about the vibes of a super big city and will get to mention the shallowest of all distractions twice, Donald Trump, since, I guess, in 2006 he is what the city was.

Another thing that drove me crazy, I realize that the author lived in the East Village at some point (as did I for 8 years), but you would think she would know that the housing there was built for immigrants that came over from Eastern Europe circa 1900 and not for soldiers coming home from WWII, something that would have been obvious if she had a succession of railroad apartments with bathtubs in the kitchen (and the Lower Eastside Tenement Museum could clue her in as well).
While it seems there's definitely a common theme in her novels (waking up one day and finding out your life is pretty much a big lie) they're hardly just rehashed tales.After reading Die For You I had to get my hands on the rest of Lisa Unger's novels so I started at the beginning. I hope they are just as good!The cover of Beautiful Lies said this was a suspenseful story, a tightly written thriller and a mystery with surprising twists. Maybe because it was almost the same plot as Harlan Coben's Tell No One, another book with an obvious ending. She has the perfect family. I do think that [When I really like a book, it's because I relate to a character.
